“Mom! Look what Father got me!” Keros held out a book in a blue binding.
Felina took the book in hand reading the title, “’Fables of old Scharnhoff.’” She smiled faintly as she thumbed through the book. “I know a lot of these tales. My mother told me many of these stories when I was a little girl.” Pale got this book for him?
“Yeah, Father even said we could add it to the library if I want. He left me some shelves to put my own books.”
He bought it? He didn’t just find it incidentally while browsing the library? She shook herself from her thoughts, “Would you like me to read it to you tonight?”
“Father said he’d read me a story tonight. You can read one tomorrow night though!” Keros looked up at her with eager eyes, and Felina couldn’t help but smile down at him.
“Very well. Tomorrow night then,” she nodded, and Keros rushed off to take the book to his bedroom.

Later that night Felina heard the muffled sounds of voices from the other side of Keros’ door. She hummed a small tune and whispered words of magic and suddenly it was as if she was standing right next to them. She leaned against the wall as she listened to Pale reading aloud and Keros’ occasional enthusiastic interruptions. It’s a story she knew well. Memories of her mother rocking her as a child and telling the tale of the Wayward Prince of the Great North seemed overtake her, and she found herself mouthing the words as Pale continued to read…
